Qisetna is hosting a special Refugee Week late opening featuring storytelling, performances, art workshops, food and more. This will be a free and informal event, with different activities taking place throughout the evening across our exhibition and café spaces.
Confirmed activities and participants include:
- A dance workshop by the Hawiyya Dance Company, a women’s dabke group who explore identity, culture and resistance through dance.
- Yamen Makdad, a Syrian sound artist, will be playing records throughout the evening from his collection, which spans across folk from around the world to jazz, field recordings, experimental and electronic music.
- Food by Migrateful, a charity which helps refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to gain skills through cookery. This will be subsidised for refugee and asylum-seeking guests attending.
During the event, you will also have the chance to explore our Room to Breathe exhibition and visit our new exhibition Borderless, curated by artist-curator and educator Dima Karout – a collective exhibition featuring works by all of the artists who have taken up residency in the art studio inside our Room to Breathe exhibition since November 2018.
